There is an alarming story circulating on major news networks and online about the recall of 800,000 units of H1N1 flu vaccine for children six months to 35 months. You can view the CNN story here. Apparently, the doses in question tested at the proper potency initially, but recently tested at 12% below the minimum required level. According to the CNN News story, parents are being told they should do “absolutely nothing” by CDC spokesperson Tom Skinner.
The article goes on to say a representative from the vaccine manufacturer indicated that in previous studies, vaccines with only half of the recommended dosage still offer enough immunity to be effective. Wait a minute…. does anyone else have a problem with this? They tell us we must get this vaccine, our young children MUST get two doses, and now the CDC and the manufacturer are telling us something totally different. If a lesser dosage will do, then why not offer less vaccine?
For me, the recall opens up a can of worms almost too big to fit into this post. Is big pharma selling us more vaccine than we need? Is the government aware of it and in cahoots? Is the real issue that the CDC would rather the remaining vaccines go to those who haven’t received any vaccination yet, rather than to those who may now have some immunity? What does this mean for asthmatic children or other high risk groups who may not be fully protected?
Tell me, what do you think of the H1N1 vaccine recall? Are there any implications for you and your children?
