The Captain Planet Foundation

Recently, my husband and I had the opportunity to go Captain Planet Foundation’s X-Mas Party fundraiser. I couldn’t wait to tell our readers about this great organization. It was founded by Ted Turner in 1991 and provides grants to schools and other organizations who want to create outdoor classrooms and organic gardens for children. What an awesome idea! Here is the mission statement from the Captain Planet Foundation’s website:

“The mission of the Captain Planet Foundation is to fund and support hands-on environmental projects for children and youths. Our objective is to encourage innovative programs that empower children and youth around the world to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities. Through environmental education, we believe that children can achieve a better understanding and appreciation for the world in which they live.

If you would like to invest in youth, 100% of your tax-deductible contribution will go towards hands-on environmental projects for youth. Join our other partners, and your investment will go directly to build environmental stewards for future generations.”

Not only does this organization throw one heck of a “green” fund raising party, complete with celebrities, great music, and amazing food, they are teaching children about sustainability, organics, the impact of chemicals on the environment, and the benefits of hands-on hard work! When children use their own hands to build something, we all know it makes a bigger and usually unforgettable impact in their minds and lives. The Captain Planet Foundation is cultivating responsible citizens for our future. If you are in Atlanta next year, consider attending their annual X-Mas Party. You’ll be happy you did!
