Toxic Flame Retardant To Be Phased Out

The toxic flame retardant decaBDE, which has been found recently in breast milk and Tela mentioned here, is being phased out in the U.S. by the year 2014. The EPA has negotiated with corporations that production should cease by the end of 2012. All uses should be phased out in the following two years according to a report by The chemical decaBDE is a suspected carcinogen and can impair brain function over time. I say good riddance! With such a strong push to get more mothers breastfeeding, less toxins in our bodies becomes even more important. All this being said, it seems experts agree that breast is still best in the midst of environmental toxins. I certainly believe this to be true and feel that the breasts are excellent filters.
