I‘ve just been reading about an amazing eco-project in England called Eden – the world’s largest greenhouse that houses a complete rain forest within its domes. It’s an eco-educational mecca and a great opportunity to teach your children about the importance of natural habitats to the survival of the human race. With so much talk about global warming, water conservation, species threatened with extinction like the polar bears and the melting of the ice caps, the time has come for families to take an interest in what’s happening to our environment.
Now I know given the state of the economy, few families have the means or time to plan a trip to England in order to see a bunch of plants, no matter how amazing they may be. However, we may have the opportunity to visit a similar project closer to home. A 240-acre master-planned green development overlooking Red Rock Lake near Pella, Iowa, Earthpark, planned to be one of America’s largest and most transparent green facilities. Intended to inspire generations to learn about the natural world, Earthpark would allow leading minds to come together to share ideas and solutions, focusing on the advancement of sustainable and restorative living practices. It would also be a place where visitors learn about ways they can make a positive impact on the earth’s changing climate and learn to better appreciate the wonders of nature. And the best part, it will make learning about green living fun for kids and adults alike! The only hitch? The project appears to have been put on hold due to lack of funding and support…England, here we come!
