The Environmental Protection Agency has deemed October to be Children’s Health Month. This designation is intended to help highlight activities that protect children from environmental hazards. Take this month to make small changes in your daily routine that will help benefit your child’s health. Make the decision to switch over to “green” cleaning supplies, stop using chemical pesticides in your lawn, or simply change your child’s bath soap. Little steps can go a long way!
The EPA’s 2008 Children’s Environmental Report features steps that are being taken across the country to help reduce children’s environmental risks, addresses the 6.5 million children currently suffering from asthma, provides a guide to sun safety and other important information related to chemicals and children. Also available on the EPA website is an October calender with a children’s environmental health tip for every day in October.
And be sure to check out the video below of Dr. Alan Greene, Pediatrician and Healthy Child Board Member, who is talking about chemicals in your home and environment.
