The Toxic Politics Behind Our Food

by Tela on April 11, 2008

Thanks to the Health Child Healthy World website, I’ve been reading a lot lately about the corporate giants who control our food industry particularly Monsanto, a company who ruthlessly puts small farmers out of business and contaminates our food and environment with pollutants and greed. They are known by some local farming communities as the “Gestapo”. Vanity Fair reports on one such incident of strong-arm tactics against a local shop owner in their article “Monsanto’s Harvest of Fear” which highlights the tactics Monsanto uses to infiltrate the local farming community threatening to put them out of business with false allegations of patent infringement for use of their genetically modified seeds, which are designed to resist the same company’s brand of pesticide “Round-up”. Monsanto is also responsible for being the primary cause of the most polluted city in Alabama – Anniston. They are also known to be involved in the following:

Persecution of Small Family Farmers

Bovine Growth Hormone

PCBs, Agent Orange

Poisoning the Third World

Roundup Pesticide

Water Privatization

Genetically Engineered Crops

Farm Bankruptcies

There is an internet uprising against this corporate giant of which you can be a part.

Step One: Educate yourself on what is really happening and takes steps to avoid contributing to Monsanto’s toxic legacy. Take the time to watch the video below (about an hour and a half)

Step Two: You can help just by making healthier decisions for your family when food shopping by avoiding genetically modified ingredients (GMI or GMO), purchasing organic milk or milk without rGBH growth hormone, and avoiding round up pesticides. Shopping this way does not have to be more expensive and you’ll find that some organic choices are actually about the same price as conventional as the demand increases. This is especially true if you buy your produce seasonally or through a local farmer’s market or co-op, thereby supporting local farmers.

Step Three: Join the “Millions Against Monsanto Campaign” through the Organic Consumers Association

By taking the above steps, you’ll not only be supporting better farming practices, but also be acting in the best interest of you’re family’s health.

Please take the time to watch the following video! Originally the video was available on You Tube & Google, however it’s been removed from both websites…you can still view it here.
