I have many fond memories growing up with my 2 older brothers of us sitting in the living room working diligently to create a new world made of LEGOs. Of course being the youngest, I was more entertained watching my artistic oldest brother create life-like structures out of small, colorful plastic bricks, but I soon became quite the LEGO engineer as I got older. My daughter Britton is 3 and I have passed the love of LEGOs to her. Since she was 18 months old we’ve been building with the super-size legos, creating towers, fences, bridges…wherever our imagination takes us. Admittedly, up until now I’ve done most of the creating and she does the “clean up” which entails knocking all the LEGOs down. And even now at 3, she likes to destroy my creations more so than building something of her own, but I’m hoping that she will soon be ready to graduate to the original sized LEGOs and be more inspired to build. Afterall, sitting down in a pile of LEGOs with my daughter is the best part of the day for both of us as we get lost in creating our own new world…in my family LEGO is true to its meaning “play well”, which we all do with LEGOs! And, since LEGOs are a European Toy (developed in Denmark) I feel that they are a safer toy due to Europe’s high standards in toy-making and they’re NOT made in China. Happy 50th Anniversary LEGO! And props to Google for the celebratory logo (above).
