[...] A recent study reported by WebMD, indicates that The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is going to revisit the issue of the causal link between food additives and behavioral disorders such as ADHD. Dr. Andrew Kemp conducted the study and found that children with ADHD improved when food colorings and the preservative Sodium Benzoate were removed from their diet. The study involved 297 children given either beverages with these food additives or a placebo without. The results…children given the additives exhibited higher levels of hyperactivity and a shorter attention span. Kemp is asking that these diet changes become the initial standard of care for kids diagnosed with ADHD, before more agressive measures are taken such as prescribing drugs like Ritalin. Kemp also contends that Practitioners have ignored clinical evidence that diet changes alter behavior and based on this study, experts concur, agreeing to revisit the issue. Read more on how diet contributes to behavior.
I am very happy to see a concerned parent not only making the right decisions for their own children but attempting to educate other parents

I can't tell you how many times I have seen parents feed their children candy and soda and then scold them 20 minutes later when the child begins to misbehave. The fact that many parents fail to make the correlation between diet and poor behavior is astounding to me.

I hope more parents can read this type of information and begin to associate the cause and effect of diet and its magnified effect on the behavior of little ones that can't take care of themselves.
